Slugs and snails can be vey destructive to a wide range of plants. They can feed all year round if the temperatures are above 5 degrees C. Common slug species in the UK ar the grey field slug (Deroceras reticulates), keeled slugs (Milax species) and the large black slug (Arion ater). Slugs make ragged holes in leaves, flowers and stems. They also leave a slimy trail over plants they have been on. Often they are not seen feeding in the day, but can be found at night. Many slugs live underground and this is where the Just Green biological control using nematodes is targetted. Physical traps and barriers are also available to help combat these troublesome pests.
