This year appears to be offering the ideal conditions for Ants, judging by the amount of calls we have had at Just Green.Ants are not strictly a garden pest but can be nusiance and make lawn areas difficult to use, once in high numbers. Many traditional treatments have been withdrawn in recent years.Disturbing Ant colonies can be a way of disrupting their development in un-wanted areas and treating with nematodes can help drive the Ants away from nests. The nematodes act as an irritant, which the Ants do not like. Their behaviour then is often to move out of the nests treated with nematodes. Unlike other nematode treatments, they do not kill high numbers of the pest. Each colony in the area where you want to remove the Ants must be treated and repeat applications maybe required for large colonies. Make sure the colonies are watered before and after a treatment with Just Ants.
This helps the nematodes enter the colony. For spot treatments of Ants on patios or in houses use the Ant Killer R.T.U spray.

Aphids [Greenfly/Blackfly] are now attacking Roses. Check near the flowers or on flower buds. If you want to build up your own natural predators, now is the time to add Ladybird or Hoverfly larvae to these plants. These voracious predators will chomp away on many hundreds of Aphids. For a more instant but poison free solution, spray on a regular basis with one of our non-toxic contact sprays such as Just Bug Killer, Savona or Block out.
