Holding these tools so the tip points down allows them to act as a natural extension of the hand - literally working by scooping the soil like a giant ice cream scoop. This scooping action also means very tight holes can be dug - great for removing bulbs without damage. They are also deeply dished so are ideal for rapid and spill free transferring of compost.
