Over 90% of barbeque charcoal is imported. Much of this is being produced from non-sustainable sources that destroys valuable woodland such as tropical forests in South America and South Africa. Not only is this harming the planet but the transportation of this material over long distances to the UK produces significant CO2 emissions. Some of the material is also chemically treated.
Bioregional charcoal is sourced from UK producers using sustainable woodlands sources, all of whom are FSC certified. No chemical additives are used in its production, nor is it transported huge distances like imported Charcoal. Bioregional woodland workers manage woodland to create habitat for threatened butterfly and bird species. The charcoal is supported by environmental groups WWF2 and Butterfly conservation3 and carries the FSC4 logo.
The charcoal also has a more open structure meaning it will light easier and burn hotter, reducing the need to wait two hours before the BBQ is ready!
