NEW CUTWORM CONTROL AND CURRENT PEST LEVELS
July 07
Cutworms are soil dwelling caterpillars, which can destroy plants like lettuce and eat holes in root vegetables. They are present in the soil now and a second generation can appear in the late summer/early autumn. There is now a new safe, non-toxic treatment available using nematodes. Just Caterpillar Killer contains nematodes that can be watered into the soil to kill the Cutworms. This can be applied now and in the autumn to prevent the Cutworm caterpillars from overwintering.
Other pests that are in abundance this year are;
Slugs & Snails: The wet, warm conditions are perfect for these pests, so keep applying Just Slug Killer nematodes for the Slugs and protect plants from snail attack with Copper barriers, Copper tape or Beer traps like Slug-X.
Ants: There are reports of high Ant populations this year. One way to treat Ants if they are becoming a nusiance is by applying Just Ant nematodes directly into the Ant colonies, this acts as an irritant to the Ants, which then move out of the colony.
Chafer Grubs: We are now entering the time when Chafer grubs can be treated in lawns with Just Chafer Grub Killer. Treat before October to get the best result with this product.
Some good news! Aphid numbers are lower this year due to the high rainfall.
