Spider Mites

Spidermites

Brown, nectrotic areas of your plant leaves and a fine webbing usually indicate the presence of this pest. Careful examination of the affected area will reveal the mites as small yellowy-brown dots crawling over the leaf surface. These tiny sap-sucking pests, affect many different plant species and thrive in hot dry weather. They can be particularly damaging to young plants, especially cucumbers and peppers. The most common form of spider mite for indoor grown plants and crops is glasshouse red spider mite; Tetranychus urticae. These mites have two black spots on their back and are green unless they are going into hibernation or coming out of it, when they are red. the Fruit tree spider mite is called Panonychus ulmi. The standard predator Phytoseiulus persimilis is not suitable for these conditions, so try either Amblyseius andersoni or Amblyseius californicus.
