Vine Weevil

Vine weevil occurs both outdoors and under glass. Adults are dark in colour with pale spotting on their backs and are about 10mm in length with a distinctive pointed head. They emerge from April onwards and females then lay up to 1500 eggs into the soil around a wide range of plant species. The larvae hatch and then feed on roots, corms, and tubers of the many plant species. They grow up to 8mm long and are characteristically 'C' shaped with a brown head. The larval feeding damage causes plants to wilt and eventually collapse. Adult weevils also damage plants by feeding on the leaves.
