Cheapest Nematodes for Leatherjackets, Chafer Grubs and Vine Weevils
There is still time to apply Biological control of some important pests including Vine weevil, Chafer Grub and Leatherjacket. Nematodes can still be used now and this is an important time of year to do so. Many pests will overwinter as a grub or larva. These can be killed with an application of nematodes if you treat before the end of October. After this time temperatures start dropping too low for the nematodes to be active.
If you miss this window of use, the consequences can be severe, especially for Chafer Grubs. The nematodes we use to control this pest cannot be applied until next summer if the late summer/early autumn application is missed.
Vine Weevil can be treated in the spring once soil temperatures rise to 5 degrees celsius plus. However damage from the larva can occur before this temperature is reached.
Leatherjackets can be treated next spring once soil temperatures are over 10 degrees celsius but the Leatherjacket grubs are then older and larger making penetration from nematodes more difficult and reducing the kill rate.
To help encourage gardeners to treat now, Just Green have reduced many of their nematode pack prices with special offer prices. So dont delay with your natural pest control, apply nematodes now!
